Colouring a Linework Drawing in Photoshop 5
This outline presupposes you have at least a beginner’s knowledge of Photoshop, version 5. This technique will work in version 4 as well. It also assumes you have a working knowledge of your scanner, if any. This technique will work best for inked artwork, but will also work for dark, clean pen- cil drawings as well.
Please note: I generally work in Windows. All the instructions here work equally well on the Mac, but Mac users should keep in mind that when the “Alt” key is referred to, they should understand it to mean the “Option” key for their purposes. As well, “Control” should be read to mean “Command” for the Mac keyboard.
Before beginning, let me stress: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU SAVE YOUR CHANGES FREQUENTLY. Photoshop is a powerful, stable tool, but crashes do occur, and it is very easy to lose a lot of work very quickly. So, whenever you complete a major step, or anything time-consuming or not easily repeated, SAVE THE FILE. Do this sim- ply by pressing Ctrl+S on your keyboard.
