Giving an apple a new face – Adobe Photoshop CS2 Tutorial
1. First open up the photo of Obi-Wan Kenobi as a new document in Photoshop. Then convert the background into a new layer by double-clicking the layer. Leave the options as they are and hit ‘OK’
2. Now we’ll add a layer mask. Go to Layer Layer Mask Reveal All. You should see a white box appear to the left of the “Layer 0” layer, followed by an icon of a lock.
3. Here’s comes the time consuming part. Grab your ‘Eraser Tool’ (shortcut: E) and erase the unnecessary background so that only Obi-Wan’s face remains.
Tips:
• Remember to keep the layer mask selected, not preview to the left of it
• To increase productivity, press ‘]’ to enlarge your eraser’s brush size and ‘[‘ to shrink it.
• For straight lines, click on an area you’d like to erase and, by holding the ‘Shift’ key click on another area you’d like to remove. Did you notice how it removed everything from the starting to the ending point?
