How to Create a Drop Shadow, White Border Frame using Photoshop CS
1. Open the picture within Photoshop CS. It’s near winter time, so I’ve chosen a snowman for this example.
2. Within the layers window, double click on the background layer to turn it into a regular working layer.
3. Use the rectangular marquee tool to select an area within the picture. I’ve circled the rectangular marquee tool in red. Once you have made your selection, click on the “Add Mask” option within the layer’s pallet. I’ve circled the “Add Mask” option in yellow.
4. Insert a new layer and fill this layer with the color white. Then move this layer so that it is in the background. You’ll now notice that the background of your picture is white.
5. Right click on the layer containing the picture (in our illustration it is Layer 0) and select “Blending options”. A “Layer Style” window will open. Select the “Drop Shadow” option and adjust the individual settings for drop shadow until you get the type of shadow you are looking for. You can use our settings below for an image that is 72 ppi.
