Many DBAs and developers today are increasingly being asked to integrate corporate data to assist with managing information, mining customer databases, or meeting regulatory requirements. Sybase is meeting this need with a new product called Sybase Data Integration (DI) Suite. Key features of this new technology include:
- Access to multiple, diverse data sources, and the ability to create a single, integrated view of data
- Access to a variety of heterogeneous data sources, including mainframe data sources
- Capture and propagation of real-time events in data sources to applications
- Search and query of information instructured and unstructured data using context-sensitive searches
- Development of applications using Sybase WorkSpace
- Management of DI Suite components using a common system administration console
- Common installer which performs interactive and silent installation using a script-driven utility

In this first of a two-part series on data integration, we highlight the overall capabilities of the Sybase Data Integration Suite, with a specific focus on data federation and the Enterprise Information Integration (EII) paradigm. In the second part of this series, we will provide in-depth information on replication, search, real-time events, and ETL (data extract, transform and load).
