The Motorola Vanguard 100 FRAD provides access to frame relay networks in mixed Local Area Network/Systems Network Architecture environments. The Vanguard 100 is suitable for central host sites as well as remote locations, such as branch offices, teller machines, and retail establishments.

Its feature set includes Serial Line IP (SLIP) to TCP/IP conversion with RFC 1490 encapsulation, SDLC to LLC2 conversion using RFC 1490, and SDLC to QLCC conversion for interfacing to X.25 networks.

More than 30 serial protocols are supported, and an optional second port can be used for additional protocol support or as a backup port. SNMP management is standard, as is FLASH memory, permitting remote download of software as application and protocol requirements evolve.

The Vanguard 100 is part of the FRAD family, whose other members include the Vanguard 100PC, Vanguard 200, Vanguard 300/305, and Vanguard 310 Series.
Vanguard 100PC
The Vanguard 100PC provides the same functionality as the Vanguard 100, housed on a PC serial card.
Vanguard 200
The Motorola Vanguard 200 FRAD enables a diverse combination of terminals, PCs, workstations, and controllers to use public and private frame relay service for interconnection to remote PCs, LANs, or hosts. Vanguard 200 can also connect to public or private X.25 services and provides the capability to migrate to frame relay as those services become available.
