Reliability crucial to Alfa 159 marketing

TRW Automotive supplies the Alfa Romeo 159’s standard electronic stability control system, which automatically brakes individual wheels and adjusts throttle to prevent slides and spins. TRW’s stability control system also offers two additional features: hill-hold, a function that automatically keeps the brakes applied until the driver gives the right amount of acceleration to start on a slope without rolling backwards; and brake assist, which automatically increases the pressure applied to the brake pedal in the event of an emergency. Alfa Romeo relied upon fellow Fiat subsidiary Magneti Marelli for one of the transmissions in the new lower-premium car.

Alfa Romeo 156 Brake Replacement Guide

The procedure below was written up for a 1998 2.0 Twinspark with vented front discs but should be the same for all 156 models. The shape of the pads will differ between vented and solid discs at the front. Later models have larger rear discs and therefore different pads. It should not matter if we are talking standard brakes with normal or drilled/grooved discs with high-speed road pads – the process is the same. The only difference is that some front pads don’t have the wear indicator so you will need to tie the cable back out of the way if not required.

Assessing current vehicle performance and simulating the performance of hydrogen and hybrid cars

The on-the-road performance of passenger cars are often discussed in terms of kilometres driven per MJ (or other unit of energy). This does not do justice to the different payloads that different cars are certified to carry, perhaps considering the poor correlation between required, actually used and available passenger and cargo space characterising the vehicle choice of many passenger car owners. Campaigns have occasionally been directed at increasing customer usage of the available payload (better trip planning, pool arrangements), but automobile sales material often mentions only km/MJ overall performance, if anything at all related to energy efficiency (mentioning energy performance is mandatory in some European countries, but mostly not done in North America).

New GTV and Spider Buyers Guide

This article covers the Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider models launched in 1995, which remained in production until 2005. The Pininfarina design was bold at the time and still looks fresh today. Both models shared the same front end and there was some mechanical part commonality with the 155, which was based loosely around Fiat Tempra underpinnings.

Fuel guide for older cars

Lead Replacement Petrol (LRP), also known as Super, has now been replaced by cleaner, more efficient BP fuels. These are not only better for the environment, but contain more energy per litre, which means you’ll fill up less often, and pay up less often.
To determine which BP fuel is best-suited to your car or motorbike, simply locate the make and model on the chart overleaf, then refer back to the table below. Note that some pre-1986 vehicles also require the addition of a lead substitute, such as Valvemaster® at each re-fill.

Brief guide to the SAAB 9000

SAAB management first began thinking about the design for an entirely new car in the 1970s but the same financial constraints that precluded development of a new engine delayed any serious design work. Of course, SAAB were not the only manufacturers concerned about the enormous costs associated with the design and introduction of new models and eventually this resulted in a quadripartite alliance of makers in a venture that became known as the Type 4 project.
