Before you can use the UPS monitoring software program, you need to install the cable connecting the UPS system to the serial port on the computer. All new UPS systems have the serial communications port on the back panel, labeled RS-232C. The cable for most UPS units is made with two male DB-9 connectors. It connects between the female DB-9 connector on the UPS rear panel and any compatible serial port on the computer. Be sure the cable is shielded and is terminated on the shell of the connector. This section describes cables connecting the UPS to a serial port on your computer.
