The case for SQL Server consolidation

The number of deployed instances of Microsoft SQL Server in the enterprise continues to grow more rapidly than the rollouts for any other database management system (DBMS). The reasons are clear; Microsoft set out to provide a powerful DBMS that meets multiple goals for IT organizations. SQL Server is designed to deliver scalable solutions while offering ease of use and deployment, self maintenance and tuning, low resource overhead, and low skill set requirements.

Mastering Oracle PL/SQL: Practical Solutions Sample Chapter

I went to an online bookstore recently, typed PL/SQL in the Search box, and got 38 results back, excluding this book. Thirty-eight books! As far as I could see, none of them was listed alongside the Harry Potter books as worldwide top-sellers, so what on earth would inspire a group of authors to come together to produce the thirty-ninth book on this topic?

1993 Bronco/Econoline/F-Series Evaporator Case Assembly Workshop Manual

Evaporator Case Assembly The evaporator case assembly is attached to the engine side of the dash panel. The case is a two-piece molded construction, one piece of which forms a cover over the evaporator core. An integral vacuum reservoir is part of the cover housing. This reservoir and the vacuum motor, which operates the outside/recirc air door, are linked through a check valve to a hose that supplies engine vacuum. The blower housing is an integral part of the evaporator case. It houses the blower motor and wheel assembly which attaches to the case through a mounting flange on the blower motor. The blower motor resistor assembly is attached to the case with its thermal elements extending into the air stream inside the evaporator case. The suction accumulator/drier is attached to the evaporator core by a support bracket.

Power Management Application Guide for Motorola PowerPC and PowerQUICC Processor

Embedded systems now require multiple low (<3.3V) voltages to be supplied to the latest high performance processors, chipsets, FPGAs and memories. At the same time, increased gate counts and higher clock speeds in microprocessors have resulted in higher current requirements. Both of these trends lead to more demanding power supply requirements. Fortunately, the power management challenges presented by the current and next generation embedded systems built around the PowerPC architecture have already been solved by Intersil, a world leader in high performance power supply ICs

Electric Power Transfer Capability: Concepts, Applications, Sensitivity, Uncertainty

Transfer of bulk electrical power over long distances is routine in North America in order to have a reliable and economical electrical supply. For example, hydro- electric power generated in Canada can be transferred to consumers and industry in Los Angeles using the high voltage transmission system. But the transmission system has a limited capability to transfer power. The maximum power that can be transferred is called the transfer capability. To operate the power system safely and to gain the benefits of the bulk power transfers, the transfer capabilities must be calculated and the power system planned and operated so that the power transfers do not exceed the transfer capability.

Oracle Essentials Oracle Database 10g Chap.1

Where do we start? One of the problems in comprehending a massive product such as the Oracle database is the difficulty of getting a good sense of how the product works without getting lost in the details of implementing specific solutions. This book aims to solve this problem by giving you a thorough grounding in the concepts and technologies that form the foundation of the Oracle Database Server. Oracle also provides an Application Server and business applications, including the E-Business Suite and the Oracle Collaboration Suite, *which are outside the scope of the main body of this book.

Migrating from Microsoft Access to the MySQL database

Microsoft Access is a popular data management application that allows you to store information in tables that it manages directly from the local disk. You can also use Access as a front end, that is, as an interface to information that is located elsewhere and handled by another storage management system. In this case, Access acts as a client that connects to a server that provides the data. The MySQL database system is one such storage manager; if you install the MyODBC driver, Access can make ODBC connections to MySQL database servers over the network. You can still use the contents of your tables through Access, but the tables themselves are hosted by the MySQL server.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Concepts

Hybrid vehicles offer a further chance to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Some vehicles are on the market already, and many companies are working on different solutions. The chosen technology influences very much the overall result for actual operation, because differences in efficiency and weight have to be considered. Also the vehicle investment cost depending on the chosen complexity should be taken into account. The question about the degree of complexity will be discussed with regard to additional manufacturing costs, by evaluating and highlighting the technical as well as the commercial background.
