Photography Blend Style—Large Horizontal Image

Photography on top level pages of the site incorporates one of two blend styles at the bottom of the image area. The blend styles create a softer appearance and convey a visually more open, less blocky impression to reflect the open-minded, inclusive and welcoming Hamline spirit.

Use of either blend style on other photos throughout the site is optional. The style should be used freely to convey openness and warmth, but with judgment about whether it is appropriate to the nature of an image or the overall effect of a page layout. In the example images on this page, the screen bar style may be considered a better choice than the gradation fade style because the book in the photo is more visible.

Testing Oracle 10g RAC Scalability on Dell PowerEdge Servers

When businesses start small and have little capital to invest, they tend to keep their computer systems simple, typically using a single database server and a storage array to support a database. However, as a business grows, this simple database configuration often cannot handle the increased workload. At this point, businesses typically upgrade their hardware by adding more CPUs and other required resources or they add servers to create a cluster. Increasing resources, or vertical scaling,g is like placing a temporary bandage on the system—it solves the current situation of increased workload and resource demand but does not address the possibility of future workload increase. Instead of adding more memory or CPUs to the existing configuration, organizations can add servers and configure them to function as a cluster to provide load balancing, workload distribution, and availability—a process known as horizontal scaling.

One Transistor Enables Clean HDTV and NTSC Video Sync Separation

The growing popularity and availability of HDTV is creating a small revolution in the video industry. New video systems must be capable of handling the standard NTSC (National Television System Committee) composite signal as well as high definition signals. Since low cost and low power concerns drive system designers to find the simplest solutions, this article describes a one transistor network that enables a single video sync separator to operate for both HDTV and NTSC systems.

Batch Processing and Cropping using Actions Scripting (Advanced Photoshop Technique)

Batch Cropping allows the user to crop any number of images in a folder in an automated manner, using the “Actions” scripting feature found in the full version of Photoshop. This is called Automation, and in this case, Batch Processing. Automation uses a set of user-defined actions to perform a series of tasks automatically. For example, when slides are scanned in bulk, they often have a thick black border around the resultant images. Using Batch Cropping, you could remove these borders from a folder full of images with only a few clicks, rather than manually cropping out the black border from each slide.

This document provides a summary of behaviors for the wall object in current ArchiCAD and Constructor, GraphiSoft.
The Appendix is quoted directly from the help file in Constructor. It provides detail information of a wall object including its constructions and behaviors.
Five tasks are to be investigated in this report, including:
1) Is a wall segment delimited to have a single floor plane?
2) Is a wall also delimited to a single roof plane?
3) Can a wall have non-horizontal changes in construction (through its cross-section)?
4) Does the wall object support internal framing layout?
5) Can a wall be a lofted surface, with a bottom curve and top (or intermediate curve) that is lofted between?
