Photoshop Basics 1: Levels and Level Adjustment

When i started to adjust my scanned slides with image processing software some years ago, the first thing i always tried was the auto−adjustment function. In some cases the photo improved a lot and in others it was looking ridiculous. Things didn’t turn better when i bought a digital camera and moved on to Photoshop. Many underwater photos published in the internet also suffer from “over adjustment”, i.e. their coloring isn’t natural anymore.

Ducati Suite- Rear Suspension Adjustment

The good ol’ Monster rear suspension: single adjustable Boge-Sachs rear shock. It’s gotten a bad rap as an underperformer, but it is still a quality piece with much better adjustment than many other sportbike shocks allow. Then again, why wouldn’t it? It’s a Ducati.

Planetary Image Processing – Unsharp Mask Using Photoshop

The Unsharp Mask tool in Photoshop can be a very powerful tool for processing im- ages of the planets. It’s theory, in addition to it’s name, however is a little confusing, as it uses a blurred copy of the image for sharpening which seems counter-intuitive. Unsharp Masking takes a blurred version of the original image. An algorithm then compares this blurred copy to the original and detects where changes occur (normally these are the edges of objects), and subtracts the blurriness revealing sharpened details within the image. A little confusing, but it does work, and can work extremely well if applied properly.

Creating Figures: A Basic Recipe for Image Composites Using Photoshop and PowerPoint

Photoshop vs. PowerPoint: Which one should I use?
Photoshop and PowerPoint are both very flexible applications-each is capable of performing raster image manipulation as well as text and vector editing with varying degrees of success, reliability and ease. While Photoshop is the choice for making adjustments to your raster image’s file format, resolution, size, contrast, color balance, alignment and to crop or merge images together (image editing), PowerPoint is preferred for creating figures and doing image compositing and annotation because the text and vector based annotation will remain sharp. This is not the case for these vector-based elements in Photoshop- there is a loss in quality of text and vector objects when changing file formats to non-proprietary, pixel-based formats.

Image Viewer Tutorial

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 contains a Flash element you can use in your pages: a Flash image viewer that can double as a web photo album. The Image Viewer element is a resizable application for loading and viewing a series of JPEG or SWF images. You define a list of images, along with a link and caption for each image. Users can view images in order with the previous and next buttons, or jump to a specific image by entering that image’s number. You can also set the images to play in a slide-show format.

Image Stitching Using Photoshop

Several images can be stitched together (sometimes referred to as “montaging”) through the use of Photoshop. Edges of the images can be feathered and the process automated to reduce the hours of work that can go into this procedure.

Before going any further, let me quick to say that more than one company has developed protocols to accomplish image stitching. When your lab is looking at large fields while needing to resolve fine details, then I would strongly recommend the purchase of a system designed for this purpose. Issues surrounding motorized stage accuracy, problems with tilting when a camera is perched on a long optical tube, and image to image correction for contrast, color and uneven illumination can all contribute to confounding issues when image stitching. These companies have worked through these problems with off-the-shelf systems.

Resizing images with Adobe Photoshop and Posting the Resized Image in Project Builder

Often times images are posted on the web and resized with HTML code. This leads to an image full of jagged edges. By resizing your image in an image editing program, such as Adobe Photoshop, you can utilize smoothing algorithms that will make an image look much smoother. Additionally, resizing the image will reduce the file size, allowing a web page to load faster than usual. This document will be written in the sense that you’re working on a CAE workstation.

Doing Good or Doing Well? Image Motivation and Monetary Incentives

Doing Good or Doing Well? Image Motivation and Monetary Incentives ...No. 07‐9 Doing Good or Doing Well? Image Motivation and Monetary Incentives in Behaving Prosocially Dan Ariely, Anat Bracha, and Stephan Meier Abstract: This paper examines image motivation—the desire to be liked and well‐regarded by others— as a driver in prosocial behavior (doing good), and asks whether extrinsic monetary incentives (doing well) have a detrimental effect on prosocial behavior due to crowding out of image motivation. By definition, image depends on one’s behavior being visible to other people. Using this
