The Java / BSP debate continues – SAP Portal Development

The Java / BSP debate continues - SAP Portal Development: The Java ...Copyright © 2005 by Klee Associates, Inc. Page 1 www.SAPtips.com High Noon: Why ABAP Performs Better in Portal Development than Java By Axel Angeli, logosworld.com and Lynton Grice, Consultant Editor’s Note: Axel Angeli and Lynton Grice face off in this defining showdown of Java versus ABAP as they assess which is the most effective development environment for SAP Portals applications. Pull off your boots and get comfortable while Axel and Lynton show you the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of each environment in this comprehensive, 35-page discourse for developers. The authors give a detailed account of the effort put forth in implementing a portal application in Java, and then two years later, a “nearly identical” application in BSP. Axel and Lynton use side-by-side code examples and feature comparisons to demonstrate significant issues such as finding the right technical skills, language complexity and learning curves, database needs, and transport

Hyper-Programming in Java

Hyper-Programming in JavaHyper-Programming in Java E. Zirintsis, V.S. Dunstan, G.N.C. Kirby & R. Morrison Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, University of St Andrews, North Haugh, St Andrews KY16 9SS, Scotland Email: {vangelis, graham, ron}@dcs.st-and.ac.uk Abstract Hyper-programming is a technology only available in persistent systems, since hyper-program source code contains both text and links to persistent objects. Thomas G. Schuessler, ARAsoft GmbH: “SAP Java Connector” Tutorial

Thomas G. Schuessler, ARAsoft GmbH: SAP Java Connector TutorialCopyright © 2000 ARAsoft GmbH (http://www.arasoft.de). All rights reserved Thomas G. Schuessler, ARAsoft GmbH: “SAP Java Connector” Tutorial Introduction SAP’s new Java middleware, the SAP Java Connector (JCO) allows customers and partners to easily build SAP-enabled components in Java. JCO supports both inbound (Java calls ABAP) and outbound (ABAP calls Java) calls in desktop and server applications. Goal and Scope of This Article Before JCO, there was an interface called “Common RFC Interface for Java” (CRI4J) that had been implemented by HAHT, IBM, and SAP. This article does not assume any experience with CRI4J. If you have built CRI4J-based applications without proxies before, you can learn how to convert them to JCO by reading the article Converting “Common RFC Interface for Java” Applications to the New “SAP Java Connector” after or instead of this one. Future articles will discuss the proxies generated for the JCO middleware and how to convert

Motorola T725 Handset J2ME™ Developer Guide

The Motorola T725 handset includes the Java™ 2 Platform, Micro Edition, also known as the J2ME platform. The J2ME platform enables developers to easily create a variety of Java applications ranging from business applications to games. Prior to its inclusion, services or applications residing on small consumer devices like cell phones could not be upgraded or added to without significant effort. By implementing the J2ME platform on devices like the Motorola T725 handset, service providers, as well as customers, can easily add and remove applications allowing for quick and easy personalization of each device. This chapter of the guide presents a quick overview of the J2ME environment and the tools that can be used to develop applications for the Motorola T725 handset.

Java SAP R/3 Integration

Java SAP R/3 IntegrationP E R S I S T E N T W H I T E P A P Java SAP R/3 Integration November 2004 Abstract Enterprises of all descriptions have long sought to integrate and manage all their information assets within a single system. The goal remains elusive because enterprises create and store their assets in a myriad of disparate systems – relational databases, mainframes, different operating systems, hierarchical repositories, and so on. Using new and existing assets in an efficient, integrated, and interchangeable manner has become the key to surviving, and thriving in the new economy. SAP remains the world leader in enterprise-software domain, with over 11000 installations worldwide. With over 60% of market share in ERP segment, it becomes an obvious choice for the EAI and EII product vendors to target SAP R/3 Enterprise as a data source, and therein emerges the need for integration. With the emergence

The Java Verified(TM) Program Guide

This document describes the Java Verified Program. This program accepts applications from developers, tests the applications using the tests defined in the Unified Testing Criteria for Java(TM) Technology-based Applications (“Test Criteria”) document, signs and certifies them and optionally submits them to catalogs. The program and the development of the Test Criteria were sponsered by: Motorola Inc., Nokia Corporation, Siemens AG mobile, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB and Sun Microsystems Inc (“UTI Members”). The sponsors have agreed on a process and a set of test criteria that are appropriate for applications developed for use on mobile handset devices manufactured by Motorola, Nokia, Siemens mobile and Sony Ericsson.
