BMW E36 with M42 engine Oxygen Sensor Wiring Harness Voluntary Recall Campaign

BMW of North America, Inc. has voluntarily initiated a recall campaign which involves the oxyge sensor wiring harness of the affected vehicles. The potential defect is due to a possible incorrect oxygen sensor harness routing during production. The oxygen sensor harness may have been mistakenly secured with clips to the exhaust heat shield and/or to a bracket on the transmission housing. Due to the movement between the vehicle body, transmission and exhaust system the oxygen sensor harness may stretch and break over time causing the check engine light to illuminate an fault code 70, (oxygen sensor disconnected) to set in the DME.

Fuel and exhaust systems – Mono Jetronic fuel injection

The Mono-Jetronic central fuel injection system is fitted to the 1.8 litre (code RP) engine. It is a simplified method of fuel injection (see illustrations). Fuel is injected into the inlet manifold by a single solenoid valve (fuel injector) mounted centrally in the top of the injector unit housing.
The length of time for which the injector remains open determines the quantity of fuel reaching the cylinders for combustion. The electrical signals which determine the fuel injector opening duration are calculated by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) from information supplied by its network of sensors. Fuel pressure is regulated mechanically.

PDC Programming – from Audi A2

On reversing, the parking aid system uses the echo-sounding principle to measure the distance between the back end of the vehicle and an obstacle. For this purpose, the rear bumper is fitted with four ultrasonic sensors. The sensors are actuated both in combined transmit/receive mode and in pure receive mode. On the Audi A2, the parking aid control unit features CAN capability, i.e. both the self-diagnosis and the actual system only function when the CAN is active.

Cardiology: The Equine Heart

Cardiology: The Equine HeartOverview The equine heart is a hollow organ com- prised of two chambers—one with two atria and the other with two ventricles—that function in concert to receive deoxygenated blood from veins into the right side and sub- sequently propel oxygenated blood through the body via arteries from the left side. Cardiac disease is considered the third- most-common cause of “poor performance” in athletic horses (after musculoskeletal disease and respiratory disorders); how- ever, cardiac abnormalities are rare. Horses with cardiac dysfunction
