One of the biggest performance upgrades you can make to your XR or CRF 50 is to replace the stock semi auto clutch with a fully manual clutch. By adding a manual clutch, you can expect your 50 to launch harder out of corners, and you can also expect to get a faster jump off the starting line. For this “How To” article, we opted to use the proven 3- plate manual clutch kit from Honda Trail Bikes. This kit comes with everything you need except for the clutch lever and perch. Installation Procedure:
1. Unscrew the stock shift knob by rotating it counter clockwise.
2. Use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws on either side of the console just behind the shift boot. Sliding the seats fully rearward allows easy access to these screws.
3. Slide the front seats fully forward and use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws on either side of the back of the center console.
4. Lift the rear portion of the center console out of the car and put in a safe place for re-installation.

TOOL TIPS: Small Battery: use a battery to test speaker wires. Touching the (+) positive and (-) negative baterry leads to a pair of speaker will cause the speaker to make a “Pop” sound indicating that pair of wires goes to that speaker. Voltage Meter: Always check +12 Volt power wires for voltage before making wire connections. These wires will fluctuate between 10 and 14 Volts. Solder Iron or Crimp Tool: make wire to wire connections using either a solder iron and electrical tape, OR plastic crimp terminals found at most hardware or auto parts stores.

Removal
1. Remove radiator shroud, cooling fan and pulley. Remove all drive belts and crankshaft pulleys. Remove
upper timing belt covers and gaskets. Note bolt length and location.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft counterclockwise (as viewed from timing
belt end of engine). If timing belt is to be reused, mark direction of
rotation before removing.
