Renault in 2004

Renault continued and extended implementation of its strategy for profitable growth throughout 2004. The number-one brand in Europe — and the only automotive manufacturer to line up seven vehicles with top five-star ratings in Euro NCAP crash tests — Renault placed third in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship and accelerated international growth. Developments included the launch of Logan and the deepening of its Alliance with Nissan. Results for the year bear out the pertinence of this strategy, with operating margin reaching 5.9% of revenues, making Renault one of Europe’s most profitable volume vehicle manufacturers.

RENAULT LAGUNA ROAD TEST REPORT

The Renault Laguna has been absent from the Australian new car market since 1996, but now it’s back with a new distributor and new models. Renault Australia (as part of the Nissan/Renault alliance) kicked off here in June 2001 with a range that comprised Clio hatchbacks, 2WD and 4WD Scenic wagons and a Megane Cabriolet. Now, after some frustrating delays, the Laguna saloon and Laguna estate have arrived. The Laguna saloon (read sedan, though it actually has a rear hatch!), comes in three equipment levels. They are the Authentique, the Privilege and the Privilege LX. The Laguna estates (read wagons) are available in Authentique and Privilege form.

2001 – 2002 GL1800/GL1800A Rear Tire Inspection Service Bulletin

This service campaign includes all 2001 GL1800 Gold Wing models and certain 2002 models. A small percentage of the original equipment rear tires installed on these models could have been damaged during the factory assembly process. As a result, the tire bead may not seal properly against the rim. This condition will allow slightly faster than normal air pressure loss. An under inflated tire may cause abnormal wear patterns and can overheat the tire causing the tread to crack. Normally, tires in good condition may lose one to two psi per month if not checked and adjusted regularly.

Renault vs Chrysler

Space and comfort are the essence of an MPV, so we need to take a close look at the route that these two have taken. On paper, they both offer seven seats, and the usual luxuries. Access is better on the Grand Voyager, thanks to the sliding doors.Having already looked at the design aspects of the seating, the comfort levels are similar, both having leather trim and offering sufficient legroom. The Renault adds a number of pull-up sun screens on the rear doors, rear windows and the hatch window. All passengers have three-point seatbelts, and are protected by a full complement of airbags.

AMC Renault A sensible car for the times

The Renault 18i was introduced in Europe nearly three years ago. It has undergone a number of refinements since then and should now be debugged to the point of being an exceptionally dependable car. For the North American market, the 18 is known as the 18i (for fuel injection) and is available as a 4-door sedan or a 5door wagon. Also for our market, the 18i uses the optional (in Europe) 1647cc 4cylinder as the only available engine. The AMC-imported 18i has L-Jetronic fuel injection for emissions purposes, instant starts, no warmups, overall low maintenance, and better economy.

Renault-Riffard Wing on wheels

WELL, have you noticed the difference? From this issue Renotes has taken another step forward and will now carry colour on every page. With the increasing use of colour we do of course need more high quality colour pictures, which is where you, the members come in. Send us your contributions and remember Renotes is not just about older cars, contributions from members with new Renaults are just as valid. On our letters page the debate on speed continues. This debate, sparked by the oft-quoted remark that ‘speed kills’ is I think missing the point. Perhaps a more appropriate slogan would be ‘inexperience kills’ for it is a fact that for years driving instructors have been teaching people to pass a relatively simple driving test when really they should be teaching them to drive. There is a world of difference between the two.
