The BMW safety philosophy is impressively reasserted by the introduction of the “Intelligent Safety Information System”, ISIS for short, beginning with the E65 model series. This is based on the approach of considering all systems in their entirety, i.e. precise coordination of all active and passive safety systems. This stretches far beyond merely satisfying the legal requirements and also takes into account the necessary technical pre-conditions for life-saving applications.

This document is based upon an “ALFA Romeo Association Tech Session / Presented by Larry Dickman Jr., ALFA Parts Exchange” paper. Mike Nakamura used Larry’s guide to upgrade a 1971 Montreal and I used the information provided by Mike to upgrade my 1972 Montreal. I have added to the information provided by Mike to provide a little more clarification and detail.

Larry developed this upgrade to fit within common 14″ ALFA wheels and there are several routes one can follow to achieve the finished result. You can modify old 115 rotors creating iron hats and attach new rotors or you can have custom aluminum hats machined. The drawings provided are for custom hats. I have made every effort to insure that the information included is correct and I have successfully performed this modification to my own Montreal. The challenge of external photography is that it appears to be so easy. External photography is an exercise in information transferal. Light encodes physical aspects of the patient into descriptive groups of colors, shapes and lines. Successful external photography conveys specific information concerning tissue size, color, position, asymmetry, motion and modification. Unless we take careful steps to accurately capture this visual information, photographs may fool us by displaying false color, distorted perspective, or insufficient information. This paper describes the tools necessary to create useful external photographs, the standards required to promote their accuracy and a method for successfully completing this clinical procedure.
