The definition jointly given by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) and the European Commission (EC) is “Multimodal transport: carriage of goods by two or more modes of transport.” Sometimes, multimodal transport is connected to the international transport of containers and the need for transport facilitation. SQL Server Integration Services is an all-new subsystem for SQL Server 2005. With SQL Server 2005 Microsoft has replaced the old Data Transformation Services (DTS) with the all-new SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). It’s important to understand that SSIS isn’t a reworked version of DTS. Instead, Microsoft rewrote SSIS from the ground up. Microsoft’s goal for SQL Server 2005’s Integration Services was to make it an enterprise ETL platform for Windows on a par with any of the stand-alone enterprise-level ETL products. The new SSIS is completely redesigned and built using managed .NET code, giving it a more robust foundation.

Typically, companies embark on SOA projects for system-to-system integration within their corporate domains as well as with external trading partners. Re-usable services are the cornerstone of a successful SOA implementation. In a SOA Project, once a producer service is built, developers can subsequently start implementing consumer services and tester can begin building test scenarios. If the producer service is under development and is not available for request-response interaction, development and QA teams are severely hampered in their ability to develop consumer code. Service simulation – the ability to mimic producer services even before they are implemented – enables consumer developers and testers to parallelize their efforts without having to wait for service implementation to complete. Service simulation also enables corporations to provide a portable alternative to building an expensive reference environment.

The on-the-road performance of passenger cars are often discussed in terms of kilometres driven per MJ (or other unit of energy). This does not do justice to the different payloads that different cars are certified to carry, perhaps considering the poor correlation between required, actually used and available passenger and cargo space characterising the vehicle choice of many passenger car owners. Campaigns have occasionally been directed at increasing customer usage of the available payload (better trip planning, pool arrangements), but automobile sales material often mentions only km/MJ overall performance, if anything at all related to energy efficiency (mentioning energy performance is mandatory in some European countries, but mostly not done in North America).
